Drawing of an unidentified city, presumably Melaka

Laerle, Joris Joostensz.

The book labelled “Mayer” in which Joris Joostensz. Laerle drew many fish and coastlines, also contains this sketch of an unidentified city, most likely Melaka. It is not clear whether Laerle is the author of the drawing, as the style is quite different and the Gelderland didn't call at Melaka. The drawing shows the city walls, the river and the harbor front, where several ships are anchored and boats are moored. The draftsman seems to have attempted to draw the city's buildings in a kind of Asian style.
