Anoniem / Anonymous / Waasbergen, Johannes Janssonius

The murder of Willem Jacobsz. Coster, 1640.

After the capture of Punto Gale from the Portuguese in 1640 Coster moved to the court of the ruler of Ceylon, Rajasingha II. When his requests weren't met, he became impatient and rude. Coster began to threaten the courtiers and was forced to return to Baticaloa without a Ceylonese escort. On the way he and his four Dutch companions were murdered.
