Map of the plantations Welkom and Petersburg

Cederkreutz, Christiaan T. Frederik

Title Leupe: Caarte van de vrye plantagien Welkom en Petersburg, met het nieuw vergunde land.

Map of the plantations Welkom and Petersburg, respectively belonging to Sir Driest from Amsterdam and Sir Silvester Giraud.

The plantations lay on opposite banks of the Canje Creek.

The depicted surveys have been conducted to measure the new land of the Petersburg Plantation.

The map is based on the survey from 1767 which followed those in 1740, 1757 and 1762.

The Welkom Plantation turns out to measure 500 Surinamese acres (that is 215 hectares) and the Petersburg Plantations grew to a total extent of 637 Surinamese acres (that is 274 hectares).

The Nova Casa and Petite Britani Plantations are located east of the depicted plantations and the Monbijoux and Amsterdam Plantations lay west of them.

North is to the right

Scale-bar of 500 Rhineland rods = 168 ‘strepen’.
