Plan for a redoubt between the Berbice River and the Wironje Creek

Kurtzius, Johan Frederik

Title Leupe: Plan van de redoute aan de Kreek Wironji in Rio de Berbice.

The final fortification upstream of Fort Nassau illustrated in this 1764 site map by Ensign Johan Frederik Kurtzius, is the improvised small sconce or redoubt (C) on the mouth of the Wiruni River, situated near to the older Dutch Reformed Church (A) and the sexton’s house (B) on that site. Given te resemblance with VEL1647, Kurtzius appears to have drawn the map.

North is up.
