Map of the Northern Frontiers of Georgia

Campbell, Archiblad / Faden, William / Brahms, William Gerard de

Title Leupe: Sketch of the Northern Frontiers of Georgia, extending from the Mouth of the river Savannah to the Town of Augusta.

The cartographer of this map travelled with the 3.000 British troops which conquered Savannah and Augusta in December 1778. After the victory, Ebenezer was tasked to survey the lower Savannah River, while paying attention to the roads connecting the coastal plantations to the towns at the Savannah River and its tributaries. To produce this map, he also resorted to De Brahm’s Map of South Carolina and a Part of Georgia from 1757 to which he added much geographical detail and a reference to the war which was raging.

Scale-bar of 10 Statute miles = 176 ‘strepen’.
