A fish encountered by the Vriesland near Madagascar

Jolinck, Heyndrick Dircxz.

On 4 September 1598 the crew of the Vriesland, part of the Second Expedition (Tweede Schipvaart) to the East indies, encountered a fish near Madagascar, which helmsman Heyndrick Dirrecksen Jolinck described as a fat and round fish, with no tail and a big fin at the bottom and top of its body. Jolinck drew this likeness of the fish in his journal.
