Coastline profile of Ascension

Jolinck, Heyndrick Dircxz.

On its return voyage from Bantam to the Dutch Republic, in early June 1600 the Amsterdam passed the island of Ascencion the Atlantic Ocean. The uninhabited island had been discovered by the Portuguese about a century before, but left unoccupied by them. The helmsman of the Amsterdam, Heyndrick Dirrecksen Jolinck of the Amsterdam drew this coastline profile of the island as seen at about 11 miles distance of the observer.
