Dress style of the Portuguese women at Goa

Doetechum, Joannes / Baptista à / van

This image shows the dress of Portuguese women in various stages of their life. Virgin daughters were supposed to dress as depicted on the left, followed by the dress style of the married woman, the widow and the respected elderly lady. The texts under the image read from left to right: - “The clothing and dress of a Portuguese daughter or maid in the Indies” - “The married Portuguese women, clothing and jewelry” - “Clothing and dress of the Portuguese widows which if they remarry again will dress as a married woman.” - “The clothing and hair dress of women who are of some stature and old age” -
