Title page of Haafner's work Lotgevallen op eene Reize van Madras over Tranquebaar naar het Eiland Ceilon. This work, published in 1806, was the first he wrote about his travels. The illustration depicts a passage from the book where Haafner's ship lands at Karaitivu, near Jaffna on Ceylon, after a disastrous journey across the sea, and was quickly shown the way to a water well by the people there.
