Drawings of Fort Nassau and the castle of Elmina

Wis, Abraham Jacopsen

Title Leupe: T' Fort Nassau in Guynua.

On this crayon drawing from 1640, Abraham Wis (Wisch, Wisse) drew Fort Nassau above and the new WIC-headquarter at the Goudkust, Elmina, below. Nassau was already completed in 1612 and the oldest fortification on this coast. Elmina, on the other hand, had only been in Dutch possession for three years.

For more information on Wis, see the works referenced under 'documentation'.
