Project plan for the extension of fort Amsterdam

Hertell, Christiaan Frederik / Snoek, Adriaan

Title Leupe: Plan en nadere projecten an het fort Amsterdam en de Willemstad.

This project plan for strengthening the defences of Willemstad and Fort Amsterdam is based on the 1741-1742 primary surveys, basic maps and proposals by the military engineers Carel Gustaaf Schrijver and Godfried Carel Esdré. This copied plan gives three elaborate varieties for an extension of the walls to the sea front. (VEL1444A

C). These varieties are tied to each other through section maps stuck onto one sheet. This particular section map shows the design which closely resembles that of Schrijver and Esdré: to the north the same platform is drawn over the sea and to the southeast the bastion is an enlarged version of the original. In contrast to the first map in this series, this projection depicts a second wall to the southeastern corner of the fortress.

North is up.
