Sherpur

India

In the mid-17th centure the VOC maintained an office in Sherpur, but because the locally manufactured silk was not of the desired quality this trading post was abandoned after a time. The company had reckoned on there being a big demand for the silk in Japan, but it transpired that the silk from Cassimbazar yielded better returns. In order to save on costs, the silk was not stored in a brick warehouse but in the existing local depots.
