Vishakapatnam

India

Vishakapatnam was a small village close to Bimilipatnam, where the VOC had established a lodge. The outpost was founded in the early 17th century. In Vizagapatnam the Company was able to buy in goods such as coarsely woven cotton, rice and arrack. The shipyard at Vishakapatnam served for the repair of the Company's ships. Around 1619 the VOC lodge at Masulipatnam was closed temporarily and the VOC employees there were temporarily transferred to the lodge at Vishakapatnam.
