Title Leupe: Aanzichten en profielen van de Stadspoort.

This design from 1754 for a new town gate on the eastern side of the enlarged Willemstad crowns the plans conceived by Willem Meijer in 1746 to move the town wall further east from Fort Amsterdam than originally thought safe. The distance of the town from the fort required a wall and gate which could be defended on its own. These views shows how lodges, curtain walls and stairs can ensure this. An earlier version of this gate appeared on the map of the general of infantry Van Burmania (see VEL1452) on which it is indicated with the letter (W) behind the ravelin.
