Map of North Carolina

Collet, John / Hooper, S.

Title Leupe: A Compleat Map of North Carolina from an actual survey.

A map of North Carolina stretching as far west as the Table [Rock] Mountain. The fact so much of the hinterland is visible was related to the increasing migration of settlers beyond the Piedmont plateau from the mid-eighteenth century onwards. The map remained seminal up to the early nineteenth century, partly because of the survey work by William Churton on which large parts of it were based and partly because of the accuracy with which the relief was drawn.

Scale-bar 30 English miles = 98 ‘strepen’.
