Floor plan for the planned new Government House in Nieuw-Amsterdam

Schoonenbeek, Jan van

Title Leupe: Plans, platte gronden, opstanden voor gebouwen voor de nieuwe stad, het gouvernement enz.

After Herlin and Van der Hart’s 1785 designs for a new government house in Berbice had been rejected, Jan van Schoonenbeek also put forward a proposal in 1791, the floor plan of which is presented here. Following the approval of the directors, this much simpler design than the earlier propsals for the governor’s residence was actually executed in 1792-1794.

Scale-bar of 100 [feet] = 12 'strepen'
