Plan of the defence works around the posts Oranje and Vreedenburg

Bernhardi, Heinrich Ludwig Ditloff

Titel Leupe: Plan der werken van defensie met derzelver environs omtrent de Post Oranje, tot decking van de Pasagie over de post Vreedenburg.

The posts Vredenburg and Oranje on Oranje Creek formed the actual sea end of the Defence Cordon; the former lay a little inland, the latter directly on the coast. Just as the more westerly Brandwacht on Mot Creek and the post on the Marowijne, in 1793 Oranje was strenghtened on the orders of Governor De Friderici after the outbreak of the war with revolutionary France that same year, in this case by two small redoubts erected on either side of it. This plan was drawn up by the military engineer and surveyor Heinrich Ludwig Ditloff Bernhardi, who according to the annotation was also put in charge of its execution.
