Myanmar (Burma)

Around 1635 the VOC established an office in Ava, or Awa, which lay north of Birma near the city of Mandalay. Here the Company traded in indigo, saltpetre, mercury and vermilion. In 1679 the Company decided to close down the posts in Siriangh and Ava because of their 'onbehoorlyke maniere van doen en de slegte negotie' ('indecent conduct and the poor relations').
